Indian Police Wind River WY Badge
Indian Police Wind River WY Badge story inside the box:In the mid 1800's emigrants and gold rush miners plagued Wyoming and caused much unrest and many battles with the Plains tribes. As a result the U.S Government negotiated peace treaties with the Plains tribes to ensure safe passage for the travelers. Unfortunately treaties were broken and the land did not remain a safe place.
Established in 1868 the Wind River Indian Reservation consists of the Eastern Shoshone and Arapaho tribes. It was also home to the U.S military fort Camp Augur, later renamed to Fort Washakie in honor of Shoshone Chief Washakie.
A famous Shoshone is Sacagawea. Known for guiding Lewis and Clark on their great expedition. She is said to be buried on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
